Whether you like it hard, thick, and cream filled in a nicely sized package or soft, juicy, and sticky with a gooey center in a pretty, little box…it’s always nice to put something extra special in your mouth. For those of us who love it and can’t get enough, it can become something close to an obsession. But even then, it will beckon to you just a bit louder one night a year. Suck me…lick me…eat me…


And, if you’re a fanatic like I am—if you can’t resist its silent, yet powerful call, you give in. Time and time again. Oh yeah, some people are addicted to it. Others like to make it their own personal dirty, little secret. But why? It’s perfectly legal; it’s not unethical. And I can’t see a thing to be ashamed of when I take a look at something that’s practically begging to be put in my mouth. Yep, folks. Candy comes in all flavors, colors, sizes, and packaging. There’s something for everyone! Not to mention, it’s the staple of one of the best days of the year: Halloween.


In my short story, Taking Candy, the theme is liberation. Being free to give in to your wildest, naughtiest impulses can result in a whole lot of fun. And a whole lotta shakin’ goin’ on, but I digress. When it comes to candy, my oral fixations run the gamut from chocolate to fruity—I’m just that kind of girl, I guess. From Kit-Kats to Starbursts, I make Halloween my night to indulge one of my weaknesses even more than I usually do.
