Hi everyone–
I hope your holidays are going great and for those who celebrate Christmas, i hope yesterday was fun, scrumptious and blessed. Among the best presents i got this holiday were two — yes two– CAPA nominations from The Romance Studio. Technically called the Cupid and Psyche Awards, the CAPAs are given for “excellence in romance fiction”. They are nominated and selected by the reviewers and staff of The Romance Studio.

Both of my nominations are in GLBT romance so in a sense i’m competing against myself. But since the reviewers make the choice, i’m sure both books have an equal chance. Plus, in the CAPAs, it’s a real thrill and honor just to be nominated! My two nominations are very different since one is GLBT contemporary menage and the other is GLBT contemporary paranormal.

Genetic Celebrity was given 5 Hearts in its TRS review and then was voted the 5 Heart Sweetheart by readers — the book of the week. Here’s the blurb:

Tommy Riley loves cooking and the simple life. But his passion for Angie “Booky” Edelson is anything but simple. Beautiful, ambitious, hard-driving and 10 years older than Tommy, Booky represents all the things Tommy has tried to leave behind. Besides, she only seems to love him for his food! Then Tommy’s boss brings home Shay Shaleen, a pierced, tattooed, androgynous street kid for Booky to turn into a top male model. Tommy sizzles for the beautiful guy but Shay gets caught up in the flattery of a famous fashion designer. Why does Tommy have to fall for two people who can’t love him back? Is there a recipe for blending with these genetic celebrities?

Brush with Catastrophe is the sequel to Spell Cat and both books have been very popular. The TRS reviewer, Teresa T. said “You know, I am a huge fan of Ms. Lain’s work and usually have to read straight through, but not with this one. I had to put it down for a little while because I was so engrossed, I began to be a little creeped out by Eshel and by what was happening with Ryder. Mostly Eshel. No, I will not be telling you why for either of them and ruin the story for you. All I can tell you is, to quote William Shakespeare, by chapter three I realized ‘Something is rotten in the State of Denmark’. I did make sure to finish the story during the day and WOW! As is typical of Tara Lain, this is a good story, and Aloysius just rocks!”

College art student Sammy Raphael is a crappy witch. And he can’t get a boyfriend. Sammy’s had a passion for his BFF, Ryder McMasters, for years, but Ryder is straight and human. Talk about hopeless causes! And where other supernaturals can bring down lightning and manifest wealth, all Sammy can do is paint. True, the “prophetic” paintings he does at night always come true, but they never predict anything important — until he paints a picture of a gorgeous man who turns out to be Ryder but so changed he’s barely recognizable. Then Sammy paints an angel –who turns out to be a devil that threatens Sammy’s community and the man he loves. With the black cat familiar, Aloysius, at his side Sammy steps up to save the world–with a paint brush.
