It’s my delight to welcome author and friend Belinda McBride to the blog. You’ve heard me praise Belinda for her writing skills and her fantastic titles. The book she’s introducing today is her novella Hunting Holly in the amazing Doms of Dark Haven 2: Western Night anthology. I know you probably read the first Doms collection so run do not walk … For those who didn’t, this story has it all — menage, BDSM, and all handled by a master, uh, mistress.

Oh, CONTEST!!! See that gorgeous cover up above? Leave a comment and you may win  an XL t-shirt with that cover art alllll over it. Imagine sleeping in it? YUM!

In her blog post below, Belinda tells you the inside story on the creation of the anthology and her story specifically. There’s a link to an excerpt too.

Three To Get Ready
Last fall, Cherise, Sierra and I decided to try another shot at the popular Doms of Dark Haven world. As you’d guess, getting three people on the same page at the same time can be a bit of a challenge. But as with the first book, everything just seemed to fall into place so easily. Except for one little detail…
We threw out a few ideas for a theme night at Dark Haven and settled on Western Night. We then toyed with the idea of ménage stories. Well, I thought that’s what we were doing and began to scour my Truckee Wolves files for appropriate characters to bring to a little party for three. If you’ve read Sex and Chocolate: Toxic, you’ll remember Tex from that story. Tex was Rico’s best friend. He’s a bit of a party animal, and likes the boys nearly as much as he likes the girls. I knew he was destined for a ménage, but had set him to the side. This anthology was a great opportunity to give Tex his own story.
There were problems immediately. In Toxic, Tex had a soft spot for the pack’s “Crazy Girls.” In the Truckee Wolves world, the development of the shapeshifters has been tampered with by a shadow organization called “Abraxas.”  The Crazy girls are women who were traumatized by their time in the labs and they’ve since taken refuge in their wolf forms. Tex’s love interest Holly is one of those. And his partner in the ménage is also from the labs.
Not only did Tex have to grapple with a heroine with issues, his male counterpart has major problems…specifically that he was sexually exploited by members of Abraxas. As a result, he’s not comfortable with other men in a sexual sense. He’s straight; Tex isn’t.
Because a novella is a shorter format, there isn’t necessarily a lot of room to develop a complicated plot or multiple characters, so in Hunting Holly, I’ve taken a bit of a shortcut. Holly has been living away from the pack for nearly a year, learning to live among humans. She knows she has issues to overcome. She craves a healthy sex life. As her character developed, I was so proud of her. While her peers continue to hide away from life, Holly got tough and left the pack, searching for her own identity. When Tex and Hunter finally show up, she’s ready to move ahead with her life with them.
Hunter isn’t quite in that place yet. This entire scenario is unexpected and Tex’s quandary isn’t with Holly; it’s with Hunter. He has to gain the man’s trust and help him develop self-confidence in his sexuality. Tex has to seduce Hunter without ever touching him or developing a physical relationship. In this endeavor, he has an ally: Holly.
As it unfolded, I realized that the story didn’t really belong to Holly; it was really Hunter’s story.  It was a challenge; initiating this defensive, suspicious man into a ménage relationship, and into the world of BDSM. Tex had many hurdles to clear with Hunter, and he had to do it fast.
For a time, Tex doubts himself; he doesn’t quite believe that he has a place in the passion that Hunter and Holly discover. Yet he does. Without Tex, there is no Hunter and Holly. I’ve always tried to write my ménage stories with all lovers standing as equal partners in the relationship. That’s a major reason I tend to write bisexual ménage. This one was different, in that Tex and Hunter aren’t lovers; they’re partners. Possibly this status will change someday, but at this time, I just don’t see it happening.
By the way…we dropped the idea of this being a ménage anthology. By the time we decided to go with m/f couples, I’d become too attached to Hunter, Holly and Tex. It wasn’t possible to cut one from the affair.
