Jared sat fanning himself after his boisterous performance, openly staring at Dan’s tight round butt as he made his way to the men’s room. Once Dan had disappeared around the corner, he turned his head to see Joseph scowling at him. He was sure he was about to get an earful over his wanton and obvious seduction of Dan. Thankfully, the other three of their party were gabbing away about something else, not noticing him or Joseph at all. He tried to come off as oblivious.
“I haven’t sung it in a long time, I’m out of practice.”
“Jared, he has no skills when it comes to being around guys. Especially guys like you.”
Jared sat up straighter in his chair. “What is that supposed to mean?”
Joseph rubbed his forehead. “Sorry, that came out bad. What I’m trying to say is that you’re a very attractive, sexy man—“
“Well. That’s much better.” Jared took a final sip of his second drink then set it back down, frowning at his empty glass.
This will never do, party’s just getting good.
“Jared, listen to me. Please be careful with his heart, he has no experience with relationships and he’s a good friend of mine.”
An uneasiness swept through him, but he pushed it aside. He didn’t want to play with anyone’s emotions, but it was obvious that Dan was hot for him and he was more than hot for Dan. It wasn’t as if a young stud like that was going to drop down on one knee and propose the morning after, he was only trying to get his feet wet. Dan was obviously in need of a little R & R with a willing partner. Better it be with Jared and not some jackass that didn’t give a shit about him.
“Don’t worry, Joseph, I’m not going to break his heart. I’m only doing what you asked me to do, show him a good time, help him loosen up a bit. God, he’s an adult, let him make up his own damn mind.”
Joseph crossed his arms in front of him and sat back. He seemed to be mulling things over in his head. He slowly nodded then leaned forward.
“Okay, you’re right, but I needed to say that. He’s a good person. An actual, honest to God good person. Keep that in mind.”
“Shit, Joseph. You think that badly of me, why’d you even ask me to come hang out in the first place?”
A look of remorse crossed Joseph’s face. “Hey, don’t take it that way, really.”
Joseph reached across and touched his arm.
“I’m sorry. I guess I’m a little protective of him. I owe him big.”
Jared placed his hand over Joseph’s and squeezed, his gaze flitting over to Stephen then back to Joseph.
“I get it. I’ll be careful with him.”
Joseph squeezed back, smiling. He settled back in his chair right as Dan walked up holding two more large blue drinks and sporting a goofy grin. Jared arched his eyebrows.
