Love Lessons Learned–
John Wainwright is having a momentous day. To start off, he lands his first teaching job. Then his brother, Evan, and Evan’s husband, Daniel, take him out to celebrate in Manchester’s gay village. An encounter with a sexy man forces John to admit what he’s been denying for too long—he’s gay. His coming out proves he’s supported and loved by his family and roommates. What more could a man want? There’s just one small problem: John’s dishy Head Teacher, Brett Sanderson, and John’s gigantic crush on him. Too bad Brett is straight.
Brett Sanderson leads a double life. At thirty-three, he is the Head Teacher of a primary school. But for seven years now, during every school holiday, Brett has fled to Brighton, where he becomes ‘Rob,’ a man who has a different guy in his bed every night but has never had a relationship.
Once he’s back in school, Brett is firmly back in that closet, until his newest staff member starts prying open the door. When John pulls out all the stops to get Brett’s attention, neither man is prepared for the consequences.
Here’s a special excerpt from the book that K.C. gave me to share with you —
John is moving in with his new house mates…
“How long have you lived here?” inquired Sam. He was sitting on the bed with Aaron. Evan and Daniel were on the floor in front of the defunct fireplace.
Three years,” he replied. “Martin inherited the house from his grandma and wanted to live here, but he didn’t want to live on his own. I saw an advert he put up on the notices board in Via Fossa.” Sam’s brow furrowed, and Stuart explained. “It’s a bar on Canal Street where I go drinkin’ now and again.”
“Ah.” Evan grinned. “I was wondering how Martin managed to find tenants who were all gay.”
Stuart laughed. “Yeah, but when Den moved out he decided to advertise in the Evening News. That was a mistake—he should’ve stuck with Via Fossa.”
“Why?” Christine wanted to know.
“’Cause the first three or four prospective tenants looked great—until they found out we were all gay. Then they suddenly changed their minds.” Stuart scowled. “You think things are gettin’ better, but….” His words trailed off as he stared into his coffee mug. He shrugged. “Anyway, that doesn’t matter now, ’cause we got ourselves another gay guy after all, didn’t we?” He winked at John—who paled.
There was a sudden silence. Three heads turned in his direction. Three pairs of eyes focused on him.
Aaron cleared his throat. “Something you want to tell us, John?” He was smirking.
Oh, God. John had wanted to tell them in his own time. Well, too late for that ntuart looked around with a puzzled expression, and then his eyes widened. “Oh, hell. Did I just out you?” He gave John an extremely apologetic look. “Oh, John, I’m so sorry. I thought they knew. Martin said you’d come out and—”
John held up his hand. “It’s okay, Stuart, really.” He turned to face his parents and took a deep breath. “Mum, Dad, I….” For a moment, words failed him. It had been so much easier with Evan and Daniel.
“Son, it’s all right.” His dad’s voice was quiet. “It’s not like we haven’t been expecting it.”
John’s mouth dropped open. “What?”
His mum smiled at him. “John, we’ve suspected it for years. We did think we’d got it wrong when you started going out with that girl in your first year at university—what was her name?”
“Clare,” volunteered Aaron. “Yeah, but she didn’t last long.”
John was amazed. He’d been struggling for two years with this internal confusion as to his sexuality—and his family had known for longer than that. Clare had been his first girlfriend, and it had been a pleasant enough experience, going out with her. He’d finally lost his virginity, but sex had been vaguely unsatisfying. When they’d separated amicably after about six months, John had been in no hurry to find another girlfriend. There had beena few girlfriends throughout his degree course, but nothing serious. He kept waiting for the sex to get better, but it never did, and he’d arrived at the conclusion long ago that he must have an extremely low sex drive. Until he’d seen gay porn and that was that.
At last, he found his voice. “You… you knew?” Evan and Daniel were regarding him with matching sympathetic expressions. His parents didn’t seem unhappy about the news. And as for Aaron, he just looked smug.
His mum got to her feet and came to where he was sitting on the rowing machine. She held out her arms, and he stood up and walked into them. She hugged him tightly. “Love you, darling,” she whispered into his ear. John wrapped his arms around her and hugged her closely. When she let go of him, she stepped back and gave him a warm smile. “I suppose I should say congratulations.” She laughed. “You’d think I’d be better prepared, having been through this once with Evan.”
Yeah, but with Evan, you had no time to react.” Aaron snickered. “He was just ‘Mum, Dad, I’m gay—is there any more toast?’” Everyone laughed. Aaron got up off the bed and grabbed John in a tight hug. “Congrats, little brother.” He winked. “At least you have Evan and Daniel for advice.” He released him and sat back on the bed with a grin.
His dad snorted. “And the rest of their household.” He met John’s gaze. “Let’s face it. With three gay couples in one house, you’ll never be short of someone to turn to. And at least you’ll be nearer to him now.”
Stuart beamed. “You have the most amazin’ family, John. I really envy you. If you could’ve seen what happened in my house when I told my family I was gay….” His face clouded over briefly, but then he shook himself. “Anyway, that’s over now.”
John could only stare at his family and new housemate in stupefied silence. He was such a lucky man.

Born and raised in the north-west of England, K.C.Wells always loved writing. Words were important. Full stop. However, when childhood gave way to adulthood, the writing ceased, as life got in the way.
K.C. discovered erotic fiction in 2009, where the purchase of a ménage storyline led to the startling discovery that reading about men in love was damn hot. In 2012, arriving at a really low point in life led to the desperate need to do something creative. An even bigger discovery waited in the wings – writing about men in love was even hotter…
K.C. now writes full-time and is loving every minute of her new career.
The laptop still has no idea of what hit it… it only knows that it wants a rest, please. And it now has to get used to the idea that where K.C goes, it goes.
