Ronny & Cole in Love (With a Dash of Something Special)

-excited waving-

Hey everyone! How did everyone’s Valentine’s Day go? Well, if you have been following the tour you know that Ronny and Cole had a very… -clears throat- enjoyable one. I, myself, spent it eating strawberries, chatting with you all who are following the tour, writing, and fantasizing about my future husband.

No, not Shemar Moore.

And no, not John Barrowman.

But my actual future husband.

And of course thinking about what happens AFTER Valentine’s Day.

Or as is the case for many of my heterosexual friends. What happens 6-8 weeks after Valentine’s Day…

THE PREGNANCY TEST.

Which of course made me think about The Beginning.

One of the things that I loved when it came to writing this book was the fact that Ronny spends a lot of time and energy talking about how he is not a twink from a romance novel. He gives reasons and explanations behind it and he uses that as an excuse to keep Cole at an emotional distance. But one of the things that Ronny can’t seem to do is stay away from Cole. Oh, he tries to fight it. He fusses and complains, but he doesn’t protest when Cole’s hand touches him, or strokes his arm or when Cole leans down to kiss him possessively…

-clears throat-

Sorry, got a little carried away there.

So even though Ronny tells Cole that he’s not a “twink from some fucking romance novel” (which is totally my way of poking fun at myself because I love writing my twinks, even if I don’t tend to date them) he secretly wants to be one. He wants the romance that he’s read about. He wants that excitement. He wants that love story.

What he does not want, or at least he doesn’t think he wants, is a family. You know, children, babies, college tuitions, the whole thing.

So perhaps that is why the possibility of “a dash of something special” occurring because he mates with and sleeps with Cole never dawns on him.

Even after he starts to read The Real Holy Bible.

It’s not until he has the proof in front of his face that Ronny realizes that even though he’s gay, in this new world, where paranormals exist and have been around since the beginning of time, there is nothing simple about just falling in love.

Cole, of course, is stunned but takes things in stride and as I was writing him I could see a little of myself in both Ronny and Cole. I knew that if I had been Ronny I would have flipped out and probably overreacted, but if my partner were Ronny I would have been Cole and been confident and reassuring.

Which is what made writing Ronny and Cole together so great. They complemented each other so well. Even their reactions were perfectly suited for the other. Where Cole would overreact, Ronny remained calm and vice versa. And them falling in love came naturally and it wasn’t forced. When they did I actually breathed a happy sigh.

In the comments below, tell me about someone in your life who complements you perfectly. Either a significant other, a best friend, maybe a sibling. But tell me all about them.

Blurb:

Ronny Parker has always been aware that there was more to life outside of his Harlem apartment. When he goes to work one morning at Starbucks, he finds himself coming face to face with a reality that he was not prepared for. He finds himself the eyewitness to a fight between two shifters, a wolf and a lion, one of which bites Ronny and calls him “mate.” When Ronny wakes up the next morning, he finds himself thrust into a world neither his family, nor his teachers, ever taught him about and he does the only thing he can do. He starts to investigate.

Cole Tronk has been taught from an early age that he is never to mate a human, never reveal his true nature to a human, and that he cannot be gay. But when he gets into a fight with his oldest friend outside of a Starbucks and finds himself smelling the most intoxicating scent ever, he throws all of those rules out of the window. Before long, Cole and his mate, Ronny, are on the run from the governing body of the paranormals, humans who have now discovered that paranormals, magicks, and supernaturals exist, and someone from Ronny’s past who is determined to kill them both.

Along the way, Cole and Ronny meet up with a group of paranormals, magicks, and supernaturals who are also gay, and who are researching the true history of the world and creation. What they find will not only change their lives, but the entire world and the future. Will Ronny and Cole’s mating survive all of these obstacles? When a millennia-old lie comes back to bite them in the ass, will Ronny and Cole be able to deal with the consequences?

Excerpt:

Seeing Ronny had caused a host of different emotions to collide within Cole. He’d been excited, aroused, nervous, afraid of what his next step should be, agitated that his mate was not only male, but human to boot, and jealous of the clothes that got to touch the human’s skin. He’d realized, even while he was doing it, that revealing himself to not only be a shifter but the other man’s mate, would bring a hunt down on their heads. He’d almost considered walking away, but his father’s words to him had echoed through his mind: A mate is the most precious thing given to us by the Supreme Beings. No matter what, or who, it may be, you fight for your mate. And so Cole had done just that. He didn’t regret finding Ronny, or even claiming him, he just wished that they might have more time than they actually did to get to know each other before the elders, leaders, and enforcers of his pack found out.

Cole sighed and leaned back against the wall, brushing his hand down his face as exhaustion and frustration swamped him. He really didn’t want to bring his mate into a dangerous situation, but what else was he supposed to do? A shifter could die if they smelled their mate, began the bonding the process, and then walked away.

“What’s wrong?” a soft voice asked.

Cole’s body tightened like a bow string. Looking up, he found himself trapped in the dark brown gaze of his mate. His lion roared, fighting with Cole’s spirit trying to get out and mark, claim, and fuck their mate. Cole leashed the beast within him and smiled up at Ronny.

“Nothing to worry yourself about, sweet thang,” Cole said. He chuckled when Ronny’s brow furrowed and a grimace swamped his face.

“Sweet thang? Really?” Ronny asked and shook his head. “Look, I’ve been thinking about it. I’m not going to be mad or hold it against you that you bit me and essentially put my life in danger, because you’re going to walk out that door and forget that I even exist.” Ronny folded his arms across his chest in a protective gesture.

Cole quirked an eyebrow and chuckled darkly. “Oh really?”

Ronny hesitated and nodded. Cole rose to his full six-foot-seven-inch frame and looked down at Ronny. He growled low in his throat before pressing his nose into the curve of Ronny’s neck. He let out a purr and rubbed his face against the skin of Ronny’s chin, neck, and shoulder. When he felt Ronny shiver, Cole grinned and let his sandpapery tongue out to lick at his mark. Ronny hissed and Cole wrapped his arms around the other man’s waist to catch him before he fell.

“That reaction right there? That’s the reason why I won’t be walking away from you. Ever,” Cole said harshly but in a soft voice right against Ronny’s ear. “You belong to me now, Ronny. I will never let you go. You are the mate of a lion shifter and we are a possessive bunch. So it doesn’t matter if you’re “letting me off the hook” or not. I’m not letting you off of mine.” Cole felt Ronny stiffen in his arms and he released the other man from his embrace and stepped back to sit in his chair. Grabbing his venti coffee cup, Cole held it up to his mate. “Can you get me a refill, please?” He laughed outright when Ronny snatched the cup with a growl of his own before turning and stomping back to the counter.

Oh, this was going to be fun.
