Excerpts:
A MARKED MAN
Getting his cell phone out, he dialed Derek.
The phone rang four times before Derek’s voice came over the line.
“Hey Mat, how’s your vacation?”
Mateo froze. “I’m working.”
A puff of air whizzed by Mateo’s ear, leaving a trail of heat behind it. Mateo rolled to the side trying to find cover. “Fuck! I’m being shot at!”
More bullets rained down mere inches from his position and Mateo closed his eyes, listening to the sound and where it was coming from.
“Jesus Christ, Mateo; get the fuck out of there and grab the package!”
He lunged for his briefcase and opened the roof door, propelling his body into the stairwell. “Mother fucker!” Mateo ran down the steps three at a time.
“I’m going now, I’ll call when I have the package and we’re safe.”
Mateo hung up and flew out of the building. Across the way, exiting for his morning coffee was an oblivious Riley Flynn. Mateo ran across the street and right into Flynn, knocking his briefcase out of his hands. There was a loud “oomph” from Flynn and then the plaster behind them cracked open.
“Shit!” Mateo pushed him down on the ground. The plaster on the building behind him cracked again, and he knew the shot had just barely missed Flynn. People were screaming as more shots went off, and the street broke out in pandemonium. Mateo pulled Riley up and pushed his head down. He grabbed him by the arm and yanked him into the Starbucks coffee shop next door. They ran by the startled manager, into the back room and out the back door.
“Come on!” Mateo shouted while running across the street to a parking garage where he took them down to the lower level. They passed car after car as Mateo looked for an unlocked older model. It would be easier to break into and faster to hotwire. He finally found an older Mustang way in the back and shoved Riley in, closing the door. The guy hadn’t said a word for a few minutes now, and Mateo finally looked at him.
“What are you into?”
Riley blinked. “What?”
“Why would someone put a hit out on you?” Mateo pulled the wiring out and began to hotwire the car.
“I’m not into anything. Look, if it’s money you want, you can have it. You don’t have to kidnap me to get it!”
Mateo sat back looking at him, asking again, “What are you into, Riley?”
Riley looked at him in shock. “How do you know my name?” Then it clicked and his face went pale. “Wait, a hit on me?”
Mateo put the wires together starting the car. “Someone wants you dead, for reasons I need to know right now.”
“How…how do you know?”
Mateo looked directly at him. “They hired me to take you out.”
ALASKA WITH LOVE:
Mark wakened slowly and sniffed. Coffee? His eyes opened and gradually focused on the man who had rescued him. What was his name? Josh? Josh something was reading the paper, with a cup of coffee in his hand. Mark tried to focus more clearly on the guy. Buzz cut blond hair, full lips. His eyes went wide at the tattoos covering his biceps and arms.
“Um. Hi.” Mark watched as Josh…something… looked up. Oh God, his eyes.
“Good evening.” Josh smiled at Mark, who looked confused.
“It’s nighttime?” Mark tried to sit up and hissed at the pain in his ass. His face heated and he knew he was blushing.
“Don’t move, OK?” Josh eased him up and forward a little and slipped a pillow behind his back. “How’s that feel?”
Mark looked up into very green eyes. Wow. “I’m OK. Thank you, for rescuing me.”
Josh forced himself to back up and sit down, because right then he’d wanted to kiss Mark. He’d wanted to kiss a man. What the fuck?
“Well, we were there to take out…” Josh mentally groped for the right words. “The asshole and I saw you —”
Mark’s face lost all color. “You…you saw me?” Mark saw Josh’s face, watched his eyes get dark. Josh was angry.
“You didn’t do anything wrong, Mark. When I saw what was happening to you, I had to get you out.”
Mark studied the other man’s face. He was rugged, with a nice strong jaw, beautiful cheekbones and sinful lips… Whew. The guy could be a model. He had to be at least six foot two, and built. A fitted white T-shirt clung to Josh’s muscles and draped over the edge of his tight, faded blue jeans. Mark felt his cock getting hard and tried to cover himself up. He couldn’t believe that after everything that had been done to him, he was getting hard for the guy sitting next to him. Who probably wasn’t even gay.
“I tried to, you know…”
Josh nodded and took his hand. “You tried to fight him off.”
Mark looked away. “Yes, but when I did, the beatings would get worse so I just…” Mark shrugged; he felt the tears coming and squeezed his eyes shut.
Josh wanted to punch something. He pulled himself together and guided Mark’s face around gently. Looking him in the eyes, he told him “Look, nobody’s ever going to hurt you again, OK? I won’t let it happen. Now, it’s up to you, but I would like to stay here and make sure you recuperate without people bothering you.”
“Where’s here?” Mark looked around; the hospital wasn’t familiar.
“Benson, Arizona. I have a friend who owns a house here, and he said we could use it. There’s a nice pool, and he just put in a Jacuzzi. Is there someone I should call?”
Mark sagged back and thought about it. Nope. His parents hadn’t spoken to him since he came out. He’d gone to college and paid his own way; they’d cut him off and he’d done the same to them. His last boyfriend had been a patient, Raoul, and they’d broken up a week before he left for the Amazon.
“No, there’s no one.”
Josh wanted to hold him. Jesus, what the fuck was going on with him? He wanted to kiss the guy and now his cock was rock hard. And the poor guy had just been saved from a sadist. He mentally shook himself. “So it’s settled. Do you trust me, Mark?”
Mark looked in those green eyes and almost sighed. Oh… hell… yeah… he trusted tall, light and gorgeous. Licking his dry lips, Mark managed a choked “yes.”
The Pack or the Panther by Tara Lain

Cole Harker, son of an alpha werewolf, is bigger and more powerful than most wolves, tongue-tied in groups, and gay. For twenty-four years, he’s lived to please his family and pack—even letting them promise him in marriage to female werewolf Analiese to secure a pack alliance and help save them from a powerful gangster who wants their land. Then Cole meets Analiese’s half-brother, panther shifter Paris Marketo, and for the first time, Cole wants something for himself.
When Analiese runs off to marry a human, Cole finally has a chance with Paris, but the solitary cat rejects him, the pack, and everything it represents. Then Cole discovers the gangster wants Paris too and won’t rest until he has him. What started as a land dispute turns into World War Wolf! But the bigger fight is the battle between cats and dogs.
Cole took hold of a branch a few feet from Paris. “Do you think the alliance will stand?” He shrugged. “Hard to say. I know everyone hopes so, so I hope so too.” Cole pulled his eyebrows together. “But you don’t really care.”
Paris looked up sharply. “Yes, I care. I care about my parents. They’ve been good to me and I owe them a lot. I’m a freak by wolf standards, and my father has never abjured me. I honestly believe he kept me separate for my well-being more than his own. He acknowledges me as his son even though I remind him of his greatest sorrow.”
“Your panther mother.” He nodded. “And Trixie isn’t a brave female. My existence is difficult for her, but she’s been nothing but good to me. She had to stand against the combined disapproval of a lot of other females for me. They didn’t know what I was, but they knew I was Merced’s first wife’s son. They weren’t kind. She was. I value her and want the best.”
Cole nodded. If there was one thing he understood, it was loyalty.
“And then there’s you.”
Cole glanced up. Look at that mischievous face. He’d switched from deeply serious to court jester in one second flat. “What about me?” He grinned.
The cat danced around his tree, unfastening buttons on his shirt with intricate skill. “You want the alliance and I want you. Isn’t that an Aristotelian principle? If A equals B and B equals C, then Paris wants Cole to have his alliance so Paris can have Cole’s big yummy cock in his ass. An ass, I might add, that’s been throbbing like a voodoo drum since I first looked in your silver eyes, wolfman.” He whipped off the shirt, leaving his upper body bare.
Wow. Even knowing what was coming, that sight was hard to believe. The cat’s skin glowed in the moonlight like so much alabaster formed into a work of art. If you liked bulky, you wouldn’t like Paris. But if the look of a black leopard stealing along a branch stilled your heart, this sight would do it for you down to the ground. Not really slim. More like lean, with muscles just where they should be, but as if they were made of silk rather than stone. Fluid.
Paris reached and grabbed a branch, then pulled himself up one-armed until he leaned over the wood on his belly. Flip. He circled and came up to sitting, his upper body glowing and long legs dangling. He spread his arms out for a second as if balancing on a tightrope. Then he reached in and started to unfasten his belt. Slowly, he slipped it from his trousers, then swung it over his head until it caught on an upper branch.
He pulled himself to standing and used one hand to slowly lower his fly. White showed in the gap. Oh my. Not white underwear. White skin. Cole shuddered. He wasn’t used to this kind of sexy. Hell, who was? This cat was one of a kind.
