Hi everyone–

I love book titles. They’re my thing. I love coming up with titles for my stories and often do it at the very beginning of the writing process, or sometimes before i even know the story. My recent release, Hearts and Flour, was a title looking for a book. I had been wanting to write a story having to do with a health food fanatic for awhile. It was close to Valentine’s Day and i toyed with words like hearts, flowers — suddenly flour came to mind. What if it was Hearts and Flour? Out of that title grew the story of a vegan health food fanatic who falls for  a cupcake baker.

My popular Balls to the Wall series happened almost by accident. I was writing a story about a Laguna Beach art gallery owner who is captivated by two volleyball players on the beach. Originally i was going to call the book David and Gareth and Goliath. But the title didn’t quite do it for me. I decided to rename it and the title Volley Balls leapt out! And that was the beginning. When i wrote the next book in the series, i called it Fire Balls and a whole naming tradition was born.

The same thing happened with The Aloysius Tales. When i thought of writing a story about a witch’s familiar, what else could i call it but Spell Cat? I laughed when i thought of it. When the idea for Brush with Catastrophe came to me i literally sat up in bed and yelled. Since i wanted to keep the word cat in

there, and my hero is a painter, the name seemed pretty perfect.

I think naming a book is a little like creating an ad headline — and that’s what i do in my day job so it appeals.

Here’s a challenge!  I just came up with a new story idea. It involves a construction worker and a hairdresser. I think i know the title. What would you think might be a good title for a gay romance with those two heroes? Any ideas?

I’ll tell you my thoughts after i hear yours if you want to share. : )
