When i started writing fiction, i didn’t know LGBT novels existed, but that changed quickly. I was just plotting out my first novel when i read Jet Mykles’ Heaven (forgive me if you’ve heard this story 12 times!) and i was surprised when it turned out to be MM. But wow, i was hooked in one reading. I had planned to write a story of the love between an older woman scientist and her younger research partner and i quickly added another man to the story. In one stroke of the keyboard i was an LGBTQ writer, and the book was called Genetic Attraction, a menage between a woman and two bisexual men.. My two heroes in that book cried out for me to tell their love story and in another stroke (called The Scientist and the Supermodel) i became a MM writer. And very shortly thereafter, i wrote a little book called Volley Balls and became a gay romance writer.

Why did i do it? Why did i become a writer of LGBTQ romance? At the time, i could only say because i loved it and it felt right. Since then, i’ve thought more deeply about it. While i never intend for it to be so, all of my books are about authenticity — living a life that is real and true for each person. Clearly, this is an important theme for me because i keep choosing it. And writing LGBTQ romance gives me the perfect cauldron in which to stir together my elements and come out with the truth. If LBGT people in the world today can find the courage, strength and love to live authentically, i can only be inspired. I think my brain and my heart picked the perfect genre for me to get to be who i am by creating characters who find themselves. It’s an honor–and a heck of a lot of fun.
