Hi! Today i’m discussing Balls. My Balls books that is. People ask, so i want to say a few things about these popular gay romances.
First, F.A.S.T. Balls releases on September 20th! It’s the story of Jerry Wallender from Fire Balls. This is his HEA and the story is a little unexpected. Lots more about that in a few days.
My other topic is Volley Balls. The other day, someone who had read my free story, LOVE YOU SO HARD (you can get it FREE at ARe) posted a review of Volley Balls. She said while she loved the free book, she didn’t like Volley Balls because the ending was so rushed and the story was too short. While i’m pretty sure this person will never read my blog, i still want to say i understand. I know that Volley Balls is the favorite Tara Lain book of many readers, and i know that they love it because of the story and the characters and make allowances for the fast ending. I appreciate that! LOL. This book also launched one of the most popular gay romance series of the last few years. I appreciate that too!
Volley Balls was written to a very tight word count because it was supposed to be in an anthology. It ended up being in a different anthology (Balls to the Wall) but no one knew it at the time. It was only my third book i’d ever written and also the first novella i’d written. I didn’t know that i probably could have asked for a longer word count and gotten it.
I originally wrote the book with only a hint at the end that the three men might get together. There was no love scene at all. The editor rightfully asked for the scene to be inserted so i did — but it does leave the reader hanging a bit. A man who has been a homophobe all his life isn’t going to switch teams with no repercussions (as you’ll see in F.A.S.T. Balls). So someday, whenever i get the chance to expand Volley Balls, i very likely will do that. Maybe i’ll restructure the book a bit without hurting the parts that people love so much and expand Edge’s role in the menage. Meanwhile, to all those who love Volley Balls, thank you so much! I like the story and those characters too! To those who find the ending disappointing, i understand. Someday, i’ll make my Balls bigger! : )
