Autism Awareness Blog Hop and Animals! Plus a Prize for You!

Hi —

I’m happy to be participating in RJ Scott’s Autism Awareness Blog Hop this month. First, let me mention if you leave a comment, you’ll be entered to win your choice of any of my ebooks that include an animal. That’s MOST of my books. So if you win, you can put in your request for which book you’d like to have.

Here is the link to the main post at RJ’s. Be sure to check that out. http://rjscottauthor.blogspot.co.uk/2017/03/autism-awareness-blog-hop-2017.html

Here are some startling facts about autism —

1 in 42 boys are diagnosed with autism

1 in 189 girls are diagnosed with autism.

Over 3.5 million individuals in the United States have autism.

These statistics alone tell you how essential it is to understand and advocate for autism awareness and education. We likely all know someone with autism.

RJ chose animals as a theme for the blog hop and i’m happy to pick up that thread. First, how about some pictures of my girl Jolie, my papillon. She’s my girl and one of these days i’m going to write a book about a papillon.

I also want to tell you about my newest rerelease which has a very prominent animal character. The book is Brush with Catastrophe and the character is Aloysius, the black cat who is also the world’s most powerful witch’s familiar.  If you’d like to read an excerpt click HERE.

Now be sure to leave me a comment about your favorite animal. I’ll choose one person at random and you can have any of my books that feature any kind of animal. That might be a cat, dog, bulls, horses, and there might even be some others. You can glance through my books on the Book pages.

Thank you so much for coming by!

Today is National Cat Day! Meeeeow! Spell Cat is Coming!

aloysius2Hi — Happy National Cat Day! While it’s very true that i have a dog and no cat — spellcat400x600because my poor honey is deeply allergic to kitties — I’m still a mad cat fan. If you read my books, you know i write a ton of cats and on Halloween (Monday) i’m releasing the first of a three-book series that has a truly bad ass cat as one of the main characters. His name is Aloysius and he’s actually a witch’s familiar who looks like a blue-eyed black cat. He isn’t a talking cat — but you still get a very solid impression of his personality.

My most popular contemporary novel, Knight of Ocean Avenue, has two fabulous cats, Clancy and Yerby, who my hero Billy calls his gay cats. One is orange and one is black, so Billy says they curl together in perpetual Halloween. In my newest novel, Lord of a Thousand Steps, the huge white cat, Anderson Cooper, is an amazing character who propels a lot of the action.

PackorthePanther[The]LGOne of my favorite cat characters is panther shifter, Paris Marketo, in The Pack or the Panther. In his human form, Paris is so catlike that people who don’t like cats often don’t like him. They call him independent and selfish. Hmm. does that sound like a cat you know?

So happy National Cat Day, my friends! Here are some wonder kitties for your celebration!  (And if you’d like to pre-order Spell Cat, you can get it HERE and you’ll be reading it on Halloween!) Thank you for coming by!!5c862fe0c3691ca366b5a978a05efa8d 4749779cc00706062f53c5b6e27ef54f 10404481_10152424805408197_5577960913473548258_n 10552592_10152406144158197_4264127272478681060_n

Cover Reveal — SPELL CAT by Tara Lain! YUM!

Spell Cat
by Tara Lain
Hi and welcome! What do you think of my new cover by the amazing Reese Dante for the upcoming re-release of SPELL CAT? I just love it! You can also pre-order the book at Dreamspinner. If you’ve already read it, it’s not greatly changed, but if you haven’t, you may get a big kick out of this story of a reluctant master witch, his very fabulous familiar, and how finding true love transforms him.

Blurb:
When Killian Barth, history professor, meets Blaine Genneau, quantum physicist, they ignite their own big bang. But Killian can’t pursue a physics professor—or a human. As the most powerful male witch in ten generations, Killian must bolster his dying race by reproducing—despite the fact that he’s gay.
Even a fling with Blaine is out of the question, because Killian has been told sex with humans drains his power. But if that’s true, why can young human Jimmy Janx dissolve spoons with the power of his mind? If Killian can sort through the lies he’s been fed, he’ll still face his biggest obstacle — convincing rational scientist Blaine to believe in magic.
With his ancient and powerful cat familiar, Aloysius, on his shoulder, Killian brings the lightning against deceit and greed to save Blaine from danger and prove love is the greatest power of them all.

Excerpt

The
man’s shaggy head cocked. “Sorry to bother you, but I’m new here. Can you tell
me how to get to the physics building?”
Physics. Not my best subject. But right now he needed mechanics to keep his
cock from rising. This man seemed to radiate heat even from several feet away,
and it lit a fire in places Killian hardly recognized. Standing there with a
rapidly rising hard-on came nowhere near cool. “Uh, I, uh, believe it’s
directly across the street from here.”
The
guy flashed dimples at Killian. “Damn. You’re not the first to say that. I’m
not usually so bad at directions. Can you tell me which street? I’ve already been across a couple of streets.”
“The
side street, Templeton.”
“Oh.”
The stranger produced a wide smile. “Wouldn’t you know I’d choose every street
but that one?” He paused as if he was searching for a new topic. “Quite a group
I saw leaving here. What’s your subject?”
“Witchcraft.”
The
laugh burst out explosively. “You’re joking?”
Gorgeous, but rude. “Not even slightly. I teach the
history of witchcraft, among other things.”
“Sorry.
Guess that was impolite.”
“Yes,
I guess it was.”
The
guy cocked his head and peered at Killian over the tops of the black rims.
There was a lot of mischief in that handsome face. “Since I’m on a roll with
being insulting, I think I’ll go all the way. I hope you won’t think I’m a
stalker, but I stood here and watched while your class filed out. You’re about
the most gorgeous thing I’ve ever seen. Is there the slightest chance you’re
single—and gay?” He ducked and held up his hands as if to deflect a blow, but
he never stopped smiling.
Killian
arched an eyebrow. A lot of people assumed he was gay because of his long hair
and pretty face, but he never confirmed or denied. “Who wants to know?”
The
paragon thrust out a slim hand. “Blaine Genneau. New professor of quantum
physics.” He grinned wickedly. “Gay
professor of quantum physics.”
Killian
took that hand and got a flash of heat straight to his balls. Like lightning
streaked through the window into his jeans. Extraordinary.
He pulled his hand back. Maybe the lightning loosened his tongue. “Killian
Barth, professor of history. Gay professor of history.”
He
gazed into those eyes. Deep green like
ancient Chinese jade
. A carved mouth. Just the type he imagined wrapped
around his cock in his daydreams. But with one big difference. Killian sighed
so deeply, it felt like his heart cracked. Yes, this man was gorgeous. Yes,
Killian was gay. In truth, he was dying for a real relationship with a partner
who both attracted him and fulfilled him, and if he’d ever been allowed to
discover the type of partner he wanted, he knew Blaine Genneau would have fit
every parameter—every parameter but one.

He
tucked the helmet under his arm. “Good to meet you, Blaine.” He walked past the
man and out into the sunshine toward his motorcycle. He couldn’t stay. He
couldn’t find out what he’d been missing. Because no matter how perfect this
man might be, Killian Barth didn’t do physics professors. In fact, he didn’t do
humans. Sex with humans stole his energy and depleted his community, and that
wasn’t allowed, because he was the most powerful male witch in ten generations,
and he was expected to reproduce.

Lord of a Thousand Steps
(Love in Laguna #4)
By Tara Lain
Blurb:

To architecture student Ian Carney, family means everything. Taken in by his brother, Jim, when his father threw him out at eighteen for being gay, Ian yearns to create his own family with his boyfriend, Rico. But Rico’s in Mexico caring for a sick father, Ian hasn’t had sex in a month and a half, and his gorgeous boss, Braden Lord, CEO of the architectural firm Ian interns for, is looking better and better.

Braden’s life is chaos. Just out of the closet and going through an ugly divorce from his wife of fifteen years who’s trying to take custody of his two children, he desperately resolves not to succumb to a completely inappropriate attraction to Ian—even though his kids adore both the man and his crazy cat.

When Rico proves to be a snake in the grass and Ian exercises his powers of seduction, what starts as a “friends with benefits” fling turns into real life real fast. Can Ian give up his romantic dreams for an “old guy” who didn’t come out until he carried a mountain of baggage? It’ll only take a thousand steps.

Excerpts

“Daddy! Daddy! Look at the kitty.”
The high-pitched squeal cut through Ian’s foggy brain.
Anderson shifted on his belly, then started to vibrate.
Ian opened an eye and met two gigantic blue ones only a
couple of feet away. The little girl squatted down beside him on the sand in
her Frozen bathing suit, gently
petting Anderson’s head and getting the motorcycle response. Ian grinned. “Hi.”
She eyed him with a grain of suspicion, but the allure of
the purr proved too great and she kept petting. “Hello. What’s his name?”
“Anderson.”
“That’s a most unusual name for a cat.”
He snorted, and one of her little brows rose in an
expression so far beyond her years—which appeared to be somewhere around five
or six—that Ian almost snorted again. Almost. One didn’t face such disdain
lightly. “Yes. I suppose it is. Have you ever heard of Anderson Cooper?”
“Uh, I believe so.” She raised her head, looking behind Ian,
and said, “Have I heard of Anderson Cooper, Daddy?”
Daddy? Okay, he
hadn’t moved so as not to disturb the petting frenzy. Now he scrambled to
sitting, getting a yowl from Anderson, and looked behind him. Well, holy shit.
Braden Lord leaned against the rocks, one hip cocked
slightly, and Ian knew that because he wore very little on those hips. Just a
pair of slim-fitting board shorts that cupped an ass on its way to legend and
thighs Ian could only imagine in X-rated postures.
“Hi. I mean, I didn’t see you there. Sorry.” Ian brushed
sand from his legs and tried to find some moderately respectable posture that
wouldn’t show his half-masted cock.
“Providing a resting place for fifty-pound felines does tend
to keep you in one place.” Lord laughed. “Don’t see mountain lions much on the
beach.”
“Never know when you might need protection from small angels
in Frozen bathing suits.”
The little girl had flopped on her butt and now proceeded to
pile sand on top of Anderson, who cooperated by stretching to his full, massive
length. She gave Ian that eyebrow again. “Are you referring to me?”
Best sidestep that
one.
Ian extended a hand. “How do you do. I’m Ian Carney. I work for your—”
He glanced up at Braden. “—daddy.”
She took his hand and shook it seriously. “I’m Mireille
Lord. And I really like your cat.”
“What a pretty name.” It sounded like Mir-ray. “I’m sure
Anderson likes it too.”
“Thank you. My daddy picked it out.” She glanced up at
Braden as she piled more sand on the cat. “Have I heard of Anderson Cooper, Daddy?”
Braden replied very seriously, “He’s a news reporter,
Mireille. You might remember him because his hair is the same color as the
kitty.”

“I see.” She gave Ian an approving grin. “How very clever of
you.”

Braden picked up his glass and turned it in his hands. He’d
been the recipient of a rebound blowjob. He slowly released his breath. Better than no blowjob at all, I guess.
“I’m so sorry this happened to you.”
“Yeah. Well, maybe it’ll help me grow up and stop looking
for romance on every street corner, you know? Just about the time I moved in
with my brother, he fell for Ken, and I think that warped my perspective.
They’re so happy. But I guess I haven’t kissed enough frogs yet.”
Braden sucked wine up his nose and gargled. “Mmft, I shall
cherish my new amphibian category.” Although it kind of stung.
“Oh, hell no. That’s not what I meant.” He shook his head
wildly. “Actually, you’re the antiamphibian.”
Braden laughed. “Okay, explain.”
“I mean, you’re the shoot-for-the-moon guy. The prince’s
prince. But you’re so far out of my league, you won’t tempt me to hope.” He
grinned. “I can be your secret blowjob guy, your fuck buddy, while you’re getting
yourself out of your marriage. You won’t have to worry about some random spy
photographer catching you in the throes with me. Hell, if they see us together,
you have a perfect reason to be with me. Combination design mentee and babysitter.”
Braden’s head spun. This made weird sense—and gave him a
bellyache. “What do you get out of it?”
“Are you kidding? Sex with the hottest dude on two feet—and
a break from fairy-tale romance.”
His mouth opened—and closed. Try again. “Uh, are you sure about this?”
Ian’s grin faded. “Okay, I’m more beat-up than I’m letting
on. But I really like you. If we go into this with eyes open and solemnly
promise that when one of us finds a realistic boyfriend we can still work
together, then I’m in. But seriously, I don’t want to jeopardize my job. I love
working for Lord and Kendrick. If you think I’m kidding myself, say so.”

Kidding? Fuck, they’d both lost their minds.

Excerpts

Max
slapped his shoulder. “Everything okay, Carney?”
“Uh,
yes. Thanks.” He steadied his glass to keep from spilling, looked up as Braden
Lord stepped next to him, and proceeded to slosh champagne all over Lord’s
elegant, European leather shoes. “Oh God, I’m so sorry.”
Max
slapped him again. Maybe a couple too
many drinky poos there.
“My fault. Totally my fault. Braden has more shoes,
right, Bray?”
“Yes,
not a problem.” Braden smiled at Ian. Up close, that face looked a little less
pretty but even more interesting, with crinkles around his eyes like from
laughter—and pain. “Need more champagne?”
“Oh,
I guess I better not. It seems like I can’t handle it.”
“Something
else, then?” Lord looked in his eyes.
Whoa, what
an offer. Get your mind out of your boxer briefs, idiot.
“No thanks.
I guess I should go soon.”
Max
leaned toward him. “How’s your boyfriend’s father?”
“Uh,
I don’t know.” Did he sound as pathetic as he felt? “I mean, the cell service
isn’t great.”
“Oh,
I heard it had gotten so much better the last couple years.”
“I
guess not.”
Lord
put a hand on his shoulder. “No, I’ve had cell problems in Mexico. It can be
spotty. Probably worse if you’re in a hospital.”
As
the heat from Braden’s hand seeped through his cheap sports coat, Ian half
wanted to cry and half to kiss Braden Lord. Right, Rico was in a hospital. He couldn’t
use the phone. Shit, why hadn’t he thought of that? “Thank you.”
“For
what?” Lord smiled softly. He knows what.
“Reminding
me that I should leave him a message he can read when he goes home. Thanks
again. I better go. I have school tomorrow.” He shook the hands of the two
clients he’d been chatting with. “I hope to see you again. You’re in great
hands with Lord and Kendrick.” He turned. “Max, I’ll see you Monday.” He turned
back to Braden but looked at his feet. “Sorry again. I hope I didn’t stain your
shoes.”
“Nothing
to worry about.”
Look up,
dummy
.
He plastered on a smile and met Braden’s deep sea-blue eyes. “Thanks again for
inviting me. Honored.” You can drown in
the sea.
“Glad
you could come.” Lord’s face looked friendly, sympathetic, and—what?
Disappointed?
Shit. Give
me one chance to impress, and I’ll spill something every time. Holy fuckhole,
how does a guy get that gorgeous?
“Night.”
Max
said, “Don’t you need a ride?”
“Nah,
thanks. The office is close and my car’s there.” He waved and practically ran
to the door of Antonio’s. Outside, the nightly drop in temperature slapped his
face. Had he been flirting with the boss? Hell, the boss’s boss? Nah. Just
shitting on his shoes.

Ian knew
which bedroom was Braden’s from the four or five times he’d chased or carried
Anderson down the hall—but this was the first time he’d been in it. Wow. Beyond the tall glass windows, the
moon left a pathway on the midnight black water showing sparkles of white foam.
Somewhere below, the surf crashed against the cliff, not only rumbling, but
setting up a light vibration that shivered through Ian’s feet straight into his
balls.
Man, if
anything revealed their stark differences, this room did it. Grown-up with a
capital G. Here he was living off the charity of his brother and Ken, while
Braden got to sleep in a room like this. Think of all he’d accomplished in his
thirty-six years. Of course, when it came to sex—gay sex—Ian came out on top in
the experience department by a lot—pardon the pun. That makes me feel a little better. Of course, he wouldn’t be
topping tonight. Sticking it in took a lot less practice than receiving it. Whew. That cock in his ass? Just the
thought sent his dick into heat-seeking mode.
“Admiring
the view?”
Ian looked
over his shoulder at Braden, who stood framed in the doorway. Ian smiled
softly. “I am now.”
“Me too.”
“You say the
sweetest things.”
“You make it
easy.”
“Nervous?”
Braden
grinned and leaned against the doorframe. Impossibly
sexy
. “What’s the old saying? Nervous as a long-tailed cat in a roomful of
rocking chairs?”
“As a whore
in church?” Ian took two steps toward Braden.
Braden
pushed away from the door and moved forward a step. “As a prize turkey in
November.”
“As a cat at
a dog show.” Two more steps.
“As a pig in
a bacon factory.” They were only a couple of feet apart.
“As the
owner of a ceiling-fan store with a comb-over.”
Braden
barked a laugh. “I give up. You win.”
Ian slid his
hand across Braden’s cheek. A day’s
growth of beard. Nice
. “What do I get for a prize?”
Braden sighed
and the words slid out like butter. “Anything you want.”
“Want to
fuck me?”
“Oh yeah.”
“Have you
done this much?”
He shrugged.
“Some.”
“Got
supplies?”
“Yeah,
although the condoms may have been used by the Neanderthals.”
“Now who’s
bragging?”
He flushed
and stared at his shoes. “I meant the age.”
“I know, but
then I’ve already met Mr. Neanderthal down there, so don’t be downplaying his
stats.” He grinned.

Ten Tara Facts

profilepix2Hi. Sometimes people ask me questions about myself, so i thought maybe i’d offer a little information for those who don’t know me well. Here are Ten Tara Facts —

1. I adore cats and post them on FB all the time, plus i’ve written some fun cat characters in my Aloysius Talescathi series and the character of Paris in the Pack or the Panther — BUT, i own a dog. My honey is very allergic to cats, so we have a Papillon, which is a very catlike dog. She even washes her face with her paw like a cat.Jolietoy

2. I was born in Augusta, GA. but have never been back. Army brat’s lives are like that.

3. I call Washington, D.C. home although i only lived there a relatively few years and wasn’t born there. My grandparents lived there and i went to college there.

4. I consider Paris the most beautiful city in the world. Yes, Venice is amazing, but there’s just something about Paris. Maybe the quality of the light and the freshness of the food.

5. I started writing gay romance after reading Heaven by Jet Mykles. I was so overwhelmed and delighted by the freedom and freshness of the pairing — i had to try it myself!
