Z.A.Maxfield Says GRIME DOESN’T PAY with Goodies for YOU!

Grime Doesn't Pay Blog Tour BadgeHi everyone–

If you’re here for the Thankfully Naughty Blog Hop, Click HERE! Nowwwwww, drum roll please,  welcome my good friend and all-around inspiration, Z.A. Maxfield, to the blog! ZAM has a great new book plus some goodies for you on a Rafflecopter, so be sure to check out this whole delicious post. (I should mention that ZAM will be back on Friday with another new release for the holidays, so be sure to hang around!) Here’s ZAM —

Hi Tara! It’s a terrific pleasure to be here Chez Vous for the day.

Readers, you should know any chance I get to spend with Tara Lain, I take! It’s my great good fortune that we have our local RWA chapter in common and also, we attend many of the same conference events together. We even flew on the same plane to GRL. Tara is one of my very favorite people ever.

I know how much Tara enjoys her beautiful boys and I’ve got to say Andrew Daley, the teacher my protagonist Eddie has fallen in love with in Grime Doesn’t Pay, fits the criteria. He and Eddie have been dancing around some very, very serious chemistry, uncertain how to go about things because Eddie’s niece is in Andrew’s class at the elementary school. They let Christmas come and go without making a love connection, even though they were both interested. So I’d like to imagine a christmas top ten in which I give them a GREAT BIG NUDGE!

This list is five things I’d like to give my guys  from Grime Doesn’t Pay (countdown to the MOST IMPORTANT):

5. Eddie spent a lot of December filming the kids’ christmas pageant. He spent the whole time valiantly trying not to focus the camera on Mr. Daley’s amazing er… assets. For his discretion, I think he needs a giftcard for dinner for two at Mr. Daley’s favorite restaurant. (That way Mr. Daley could say, “That’s my favorite place. I sure wish I could go.” Hint, hint.)

4. Andrew thinks he’s a klutz because he can never relax enough to dance. I want to give Andrew a series of ten tango lessons AND, a tight-fitting black T-shirt that says, “I survived Ballroom Dance Academy: Ask Me To Tango”.

3. If I were Santa Claus, I’d come down the chimney and change Eddie’s ringtone to  “Hot For Teacher”. That way if someone calls when Eddie chaperones a field trip, it will be Andrew who gets the message.

2. I’d really like to buy Andrew a book on how to start conversations, because Andrew’s go-to method is referencing the books he has been reading. Eddie is profoundly dyslexic, and even if he knows better, he has some issues being unable to read in the conventional way. Of course, while this is probably a really great idea, Andrew is bound to start the next conversation by referencing the book he read on starting conversations.

1. The best gift I could give Andrew and Eddie is a reason for contacting each other outside the context of school. I’d love to give them someone they can help out together as an ice-breaker and then, I’d like to give Andrew a problem that Eddie is uniquely qualified to help solve…Oh, wait…

Okay. Here’s my list of five things I think they should give each other:

5. Massage oil, because Eddie needs to relax (and oil will make his big muscles glisten.)

4. Candles, because firelight shows of the highlights in Andrew’s negligently tousled hair.

3. Waterproof lube, for good clean fun in the shower.

2. Patience, because it will be a while before they get things absolutely right between them.

1. And finally, faith, because sooner or later Andrew and Eddie will realize that all the months they danced around their attraction were like foreplay for when they finally acted on it, and wow. The fireworks. Good things really are worth the wait!

Get ready for The Brother’s Grime 2: Eddie’s story, Grime and Doesn’t Pay

Grime Doesn’t Pay
(The Brothers Grime, Bk #2)
By Z.A. Maxfield

Eddie Vasquez is hot for his niece Lucy’s third grade teacher, B. Andrew (call me Andrew) Daley. Eddie can’t wait to take Andrew dancing to show him his moves. The only problem is, Andrew keeps talking about books Eddie hasn’t read, that he can’t read — at least not in the usual way — because Eddie’s dyslexic.

When the two men find Eddie’s favorite teacher, Mrs. Henderson, wandering the school grounds confused and smelling of human decomposition, they come together to help her. Eddie’s fiercely loyal, and this is the teacher who uncovered Eddie’s learning disability and helped him regain his self-esteem. He’ll do anything, even take on a massive cleaning job pro bono to pay Mrs. Henderson back for the support she’s given him.

Andrew and Eddie come from different worlds, Eddie can’t read, Andrew can’t dance. Andrew’s father is a horrible snob and if all Eddie’s secrets are laid bare, he’ll have plenty to feel superior about. But Eddie and Andrew have taken on a massive project together, and their growing attraction can’t be denied. They learn the trick to forming a lasting partnership in dance and in life might be finding a partner whose weaknesses you can live with and whose strengths make you look good, in Grime Doesn’t Pay.

About the Author

Z. A. Maxfield started writing in 2007 on a dare from her children and never looked back.  Pathologically disorganized, and perennially optimistic, she writes as much as she can, reads as much as she dares, and enjoys her time with family and friends. Three things reverberate throughout all her stories: Unconditional love, redemption, and the belief that miracles happen when we least expect them.If anyone asks her how a wife and mother of four can find time for a writing career, she’ll answer, “It’s amazing what you can accomplish if you give up housework.”

Amazon Rank Amazeballs

Not meaning to belabor this point, but i am HAPPY DANCING over the amazing Amazon Rank surprise i have gotten the last week and a half. As i told you earlier, i posted Love You so Hard at Amazon for 99 cents with the idea that they would price match it to zero. But people started buying it. Like crazy. And the” little book that could” climbed and climbed the charts until it was number 1 in gay romance and gay fiction and gay and lesbian fiction. Yes, this is very cool! As i’m writing this, it is still number 1 in all three categories. But that wasn’t the most amazing thing. I’ve had the privilege of having books that were number 1 in my genres at Amazon before. It’s a fabulous thrill. But what was new with Love You So Hard was the Rank. It hit 500 in the Kindle Store.

Rank at Amazon is a relative thing. Your book is compared against every other book selling in the Kindle Store. If a lot of books are selling well in other categories but not so much in yours, you might be number one in gay romance when your book is 1000 or 1200 in the Kindle Store. But lately, gay romance has been very popular. Books that rank number one are usually below 1000 in the Kindle Store. When F.A.S.T. Balls was number 2 in gay romance a couple months ago, it was above 1000 but the number one book was below 1000. This means you have to sell a lot of books to be the number 1 book in gay romance LoveYouSoHard_432these days. Which is great news for all of us. So that brings me to Love You So Hard. It kept selling more and more copies and i watched it go from number 10 to 6 to 4. And then it was number 2! I was amazed but i checked the rank of the number 1 book and it was well below 1000. I never thought my little novella would make it. But it did. The next day, the book plunged below 1000 and took over the number 1 spot. And it’s been there for days. Right now, it’s climbed out of the 500s into the 600s but it’s still number 1. It may lose it’s number 1 position soon but i’m sure grateful to have held it forr so many days.

For an author, it’s mind-blowing. In the Kindle store which has over 1 million books, my little novella stacked up against Harry Potter and the Bible and 50 Shades of Grey to rank just over 500! Wow. That is worth the champagne my husband bought me at lunch today to celebrate. Okay, i’ll stop talking about it now. Thank you so much for coming by! : )

Just for fun, here’s a hot nibble from the recent bestseller, F.A.S.T. Balls, in case you have been hiding out for the last three months!  LOL The excerpt is rated R.

Excerpt R: F.A.S.T. Balls by Tara Lain; The Gay Fireman and the Homophobe

Available at AMAZON  ARe

Firefighter and surfing champion, Jerry Wallender, looks like a hero to the world, but he can’t see it. He keeps falling for these intellectual guys who end up making him feel dumb and unneeded.  On top of that, Mick Cassidy, super-gorgeous firefighter and total homophobe, makes Jerry’s life miserable with his slurs. Then one day Mick’s nice to Jerry and, at the Firefighter’s Ball, Jerry offers a helping hand and ends up with a hand-job. What the hell is going on?

Mick Cassidy is great with fighting fires and solving math problems but rotten with people. Raised by a gay-hating preacher, Mick’s carefully constructed world of gay bashing starts to crumble when he meets Jerry, the nicest, kindest man he’s ever known.  Mick’s never wanted a woman and can’t stop thinking about sex with Jerry. In fact, he can’t stop doing it. Does that make him gay? And if he’s gay, what happens to his whole life? A hook-up between sweet Jerry and mean Mick might be total disaster — or the smartest idea Jerry ever had.

Jerry patted the sand next to him. “So sit.”

Mick smiled like Jerry had just given him a candy bar. “Thanks.” He turned and leaned against the rock with his long, muscular legs stretched in front of him. “This is nice.”

Jerry glanced at Mick’s pale skin. “Don’t guess you spend too much time at the beach.”

“No. I always forget it’s here.”

Jerry laughed. “What do you do for fun?”

He looked over at Mick’s very pink ear.

“Uh, I used to go out to Norco on my days off.”

“To your community?” That was the word he’d used.

He picked up some tiny shells from the sand. “Why didn’t you go today? Because of Jezebel?”

“No, I haven’t been going so much lately. They kind of give me the creeps.”

Jerry laughed. “I know how that can be.”

“Where are your folks?”

“Back east.”

Mick grinned. “I never would think of anything eastern about you.”

“I know. Weird, huh?” He tossed the shells. “My folks are bankers.” He laughed. “Maybe as creepy as your preacher father.”

“So how did you get here?”

Man, he didn’t talk about this much. “I didn’t do good in school. I’ve got this reading problem and nobody caught it until I was way far behind because I was good at memorizing stuff when I heard it. My folks were kind of embarrassed by me. A jock who wasn’t real bright. Somebody told me I should be an actor, so I borrowed some money and flew to California. It took me about a week to figure out I wasn’t ever going to be an actor, but it took one minute to know this is where I belong, man. I’ve been here ever since.”

“How old were you when you came?”

“Wow, they let you come that young.”

“Yeah. I didn’t exactly ask. But they were just as glad to be rid of me. I paid back the money in a few months.”

“You mean you didn’t learn to surf until you were seventeen?”

“Yeah, natural athlete they call it. And I didn’t take up firefighting until I was twenty-six. I’m a late bloomer.” He laughed and sighed at the same time.

“But you aren’t dumb.”

That was sweet. “Thanks.”

“No seriously, I’m really smart and I think you’re smarter than me.”

What? “Uh, thanks, Mick.”

He wouldn’t give up. “I’m a genius, they say, but I’m really bad with people. I can’t make friends or anything.” He hunched those big shoulders and stared at the sand. “You’re like a genius with people. Nice and kind and funny.”

She-it. “Kind of you to say so. So you’re a genius?”

“At math. Stuff like that. Nothing that matters.”

Holy crap, why did he keep coming up against these smart people. “Why’d you become a firefighter?”

“It made sense to me. Save people’s lives and their property.”

Jerry nodded. “Me too.”

Quiet. Seagulls. Waves. Ignore the double jerk-off elephant at the beach. Why was Mick here?

“What we did last night.”

“I keep thinking about it.”

“I told you not to worry too much. You got turned on by Jezebel and needed some relief. I was there.” He closed his eyes.

“Not by Jezebel. By you.” His eyes opened

Jerry looked at Mick’s profile. “What do you mean?”

“I was watching you and the other guy dance.”

Ooookay. “I see.” So maybe Mick wasn’t so straight.

“I was thinking how your cocks must be rubbing together. I thought it would feel good.”

Jerry swallowed. “Now you know.”

More staring at the sand. “Yes. It felt great.”

Jerry held his breath.

“Now I’m wondering what it feels like to have a thing, you know, a cock, in your ass.”

He let the breath out slowly. Should he laugh or cry? “Well, the first time it’s really hard to do. You kind of need to stretch the hole so it doesn’t hurt.”

Mick didn’t look up but his ears glowed like a sunset. “That makes sense.”

Waves. Seagulls.

Mick stared at more sand. “Would you like to try it with me sometime?”

Thank you for coming by! : )

Milly Taiden Brings SCENT OF A MATE & Prizes for You!

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00068]Hi everyone–

I’m happy to welcome my friend, Milly Taiden, who has spent this month launching her new bestseller, Scent of a Mate. As you know, no one writes werewolves like Milly. Here’s enough to make you salivate over reading this new book for yourself!

Scent of a Mate

Mission: Scent a Mate

Jordan Alvarez knew that a promise to her best friend involved staking out the local wolf pack’s scenting ceremony and recording the graphic details, but she was the writer and the only one with the balls to finish the task. No one would know that four human women had sneaked proof of their rituals, or at least, that was the plan until Aric Wolfe showed up.

Mission: Stake a Claim

Aric Wolfe knew his baby sister was up to something, and expected her best friend, Jordan, to be in on the chaos. He finally had an opportunity to lay claim to a mate that had been under his nose for years. Jordan’s scent called to both the man and the animal, and he was done fighting the call of the beast. It was time to mark his mate.

Mission: Survive an Alpha

When a good intention creates a problem for the Wolfe family, Jordan finds herself being stalked by a woman intent on claiming Aric as her own. Battle lines will be drawn, love will be put to the test, and Aric will have to fight Jordan’s strong personality to keep her alive. Two alpha hearts seeking control will either find the balance or risk losing their love forever.

A burst of wind shook the trees and kissed her skin. Electricity danced in the air, turning it thick with anticipation. Something cracked behind her. She swirled so fast her earpiece fell. Slowly taking in every dark crevice between the tree limbs, she looked for the noisemaker. Nothing. But she knew there was something out there. She could feel eyes watching her. No matter how hard she searched, nothing came out from the darkness. Dammit. She should have brought her mace, or her stun gun, or hell, even her bat. Something. But in her excitement she’d left all of her precautionary ass-kicking-survival-kit in her SUV.

She crouched down, quietly cursing the darkness, looking for her ear piece. A quick move from her left grabbed her attention. One very large, very angry looking brown wolf stood there, baring his teeth at her. She shot up to her feet, her hands immediately going into fists. She knew all the Wolfe’s in their wolf shape. With a white wolf for a mother and a black one for a father, all the men had some combination of black and white on them. She knew Aric’s by heart from secretly watching him all those times in her youth while he tore from his shorts to run with his brothers and friends. This was not one of the wolves she knew.

“Now you stay right over there and nobody gets hurt,” she whispered. Her mind ran a million miles per hour. She tried to figure out how to defend herself if it came down to a fight with the big wolf. Something poked her from behind. She grasped around, until she had her hands wrapped tight on the branch behind her, tugging until she broke a limb off.
A low growl was the animal’s only response. Heartbeats pounded hard in her chest, spreading the fear she was trying to tamp. He took a menacing step toward her. She didn’t know what the animal’s plan was, but her gut said it wasn’t a good one.

“Listen to me carefully, fur ball. You’re not going to turn me into puppy chow. Now go back to the party down there,” she cocked her head to the side, “and forget I’m up here. Got it?”

The wolf’s features turned darker, as if angered by her words. Trust her to piss off an already angry wolf. Nice.

A deeper growl made her jerk her head to the right. Another wolf stood there. His gaze locked on the brown. She knew this wolf. The thick black coat with the white paws and muzzle belonged to only one man. Aric.

The standoff was making her stomach queasy, and her stupid outfit was itching like crazy. Aric’s wolf took three steps and stood in front of her. The brown growled and launched toward them.

Oh hell.

Aric shoved the wolf off. The brown whimpered from a bite, but the stupid thing didn’t stop. It went for her again. Aric snarled, digging his paws into the brown fur and biting down on the brown’s neck. She winced.

With the branch in her grasp, she watched the brown lower its head in submission. Apparently that was enough for Aric. He let go of the wolf and turned to her. The brown took Aric’s distraction to jump in her direction, but she’d been watching the wolf closely.

She had a feeling he wouldn’t give up so easily. Her vision sharpened, and she focused on the animal leaping toward her. She swung the branch with all her might and heard the sound of bone cracking as it made impact with the wolf’s face. He landed on his side with a thud. Aric stood and shoved at the other wolf, growling at it and snarling a warning. The other animal left, limping and whimpering. Every few steps he’d turn and glare at her.

The burst of adrenaline rushing through her made her continue to grip the branch. She stared at the location the other wolf had left through, waiting to see if he would turn around and attack. Something brushed her leg, taking her concentration from the other animal and bringing it back to the present. Shit. Aric had found her. She glanced down at the black and white wolf, which reminded her so much of a Dalmatian.

“Er… Aric?” She whispered. Her throat went dry. This was the man she’d wanted since forever and his muzzle was level with her privates.

TaraLain_FastBalls_453Here is my Sunday Snog! It’s from F.A.S.T. Balls and no one has read this scene except those who have read the book! First the blurb:

A hot, gay firefighter could send Mick’s life up in flames…

Firefighter and surfing champion Jerry Wallender is a member of FAST—the Firefighter Assist and Search Team. But while the rest of the world thinks he’s a hero, he just doesn’t see it. He keeps falling for these intellectual guys who wind up making him feel dumb and needy. On top of that, Mick Cassidy, super-gorgeous firefighter and total homophobe, makes Jerry’s life miserable with his slurs. Until the night of the Firefighter’s Ball, when Jerry offers Mick a helping hand and gets a hand job in return.

Mick Cassidy is great at fighting fires and solving math problems. But he’s rotten with people—until he meets Jerry, the nicest, kindest man he’s ever known. Raised by a gay-hating preacher, Mick grew up despising men like Jerry. He’s never wanted a woman, but he can’t stop thinking about the strong, sexy firefighter and what they shared at the Firefighter’s Ball. Does that make him gay? And if he’s gay, what will happen to his whole, carefully constructed life?

“Do guys kiss?”

Where did that come from? “You mean like gay guys? Sure, just like straight guys do.”

“I’ve kissed a girl.”

He almost laughed since it sounded like a song. No, Mick was deadly serious. “I’m sure you have.”

And then all hell broke loose.

Mick stepped forward and grabbed Jerry’s face in his big hands. Jeez, he couldn’t even catch a breath. Mick’s lips descended and all of a sudden Jerry had warm mouth and hot tongue all over the place.

What the hell? He froze. Should he pull back? No, he couldn’t insult Mick. That could hurt him. Umm. Besides, that tongue was suh-weet! He opened a crack, and weirdly Mick took full advantage, pressing into the recesses of Jerry’s mouth.

Well, hell. Andres’s kiss hadn’t really done it for him, but this? Everything about Mick, physically at least, suited Jerry down to the ground. He was bigger, stronger. Jerry could feel his biceps straining through the material of his uniform. His mouth tasted like heaven. He even smelled like Jerry’s idea of a good time. Kind of clean and musky at the same time.

How was this happening? No idea. Should he be doing this? No. Did he care? He should. Yes, he should. But then Mick moaned and pulled Jerry into his body tight. The last of the alcohol fumes from his little binge earlier drifted into his brain. Oh shit. Ruined. Jerry wrapped his arms around Mick’s neck and kissed him back like he wasn’t tongue fucking the biggest homophobe on the planet.

Happy snogging! If you’d like to know more about F.A.S.T. Balls and win some 9981892_sprizes, please follow my Blog Tour. Here’s the schedule:
