High Praise for HIGH BALLS by Tara Lain #TopPick #5Stars

Hi! I’m back from my vacation — which turned out to be a staycation since we weren’t able to take our trip due to changing schedules. I did get to go to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park on Monday, my actual birthday, and that’s one of my favorite things to do, so i had fun. My nicest gift was all the lovely praise for my new release, High Balls, that came in while i was gone. Thank you to all who have bought, read, reviewed, commented and messaged me about how much they like the book!

Yesterday, Night Owl Reviews named High Balls a Top Pick! ELF, the reviewer, said, ““High Balls” by Tara Lain reminds me of why I have long been a fan of this author. Her stories address painful and realistic subjects in a fashion that reminds us that there is light at the end of the tunnel, no matter how dark it seems. I always finish her books with a satisfied and uplifted attitude, and this story really was wonderful to read during the dark times we are living in, and my favorite, in a series that has featured some wonderful and unique men. I adore reminders that one needs to look beyond the surface before making an intelligent judgment, and Snake epitomizes that precept. Young Andy is beautifully presented and serves as a great reminder that children are definitely shaped (and sometimes scarred) by the adults who should be their role models. And who can resist Theodore, with his wonderful defense of romance novels and his unselfish devotion to his young son?”

A Kindle Fan called her 5 Star Review “My New Favorite” and said, “First of all I loved Teddy and Snake. The whole story is pure Tara. She makes situations so real. Emotions are so well portrayed you can feel them. As usual there is so much love in this story. The love between a father and child. The love of a new relationship. The love of a tight-knit group of friends become family. This is a true love story. Enjoy!”

Veronica at V’s Reads, says “For me, I loved the tenderness, and interactions between Theo, Andy and Snake. It’s a fun juxtaposition, this strapping biker-ish guy and the curious child, but they make great co-conspirators. Snake loves his “Teddy Bear” and he’s set to prove it any way he can. And, he’s not afraid to go to Theo’s friends and ask for their help, either. All the boys of the Ball to the Walls books assist Theo or Snake as they ensure Theo’s thesis gets fair treatment, and Andy’s paternity is affirmed. It’s a feel-good romance with a sweet HEA to enjoy.”

Lorraine L. says 5 Stars and “Tara Lain may have helped me in curing my phobia of snakes. I’ve finally one that’s doesn’t want to make me run away. This one however is not only pierced, has tats, big, oozes sex appeal and goes by the name of …..Snake Erasmo.
Now I don’t want to take the limelight away from the truly wonderful Theo, because he was special as well and of course the adorable Andy, but Snake was the naughty forbidden fruit for me.”

And these are just a few. Check out a bunch of great reviews on AMAZON. Or just click on the High Balls page. Thank you for stopping by and helping make this book a great success. And if you’re a Peter Pan fan, you might be surprised at how Peter and Wendy might look if Wendy happened to be Wendell and both guys were gay in my upcoming release Never, the next Pennymaker Tale, available November 3rd.

Get Ready for Magic, Shifters, and the Coolest Cat Ever! #CataclysmicShift

Hi —

I’m so excited to tell you that the re-release of Cataclysmic Shift is only 3 days away. This is a book in my paranormal series called The Aloysius Tales, and the first time it released, some mix ups in categorization meant a lot of people missed the book. If you’ve read either of the other Aloysius Tales — Spell Cat or Brush with Catastrophe — and enjoyed them then you’re not going to want to miss Cataclysmic Shift. But you don’t have to have read those books to enjoy this one.

This story includes not only witches like the other books, but also a shifter, and the coolest cat ever, Aloysius.

Here is the blurb —

Aloysius, the magical black cat and powerful witch’s familiar, isn’t afraid to go into battle to protect his master, but the outcome of the fight turns his feline world upside down. A direct hit of magic steals not only his memories and power, but even the body he’s lived in for several centuries. When he wakes up naked on the floor of a veterinarian’s office, it isn’t as the cat Aloysius, but as the sixteenth-century French gentleman Alain Bellarose. And when Alain sees sexy and enigmatic veterinarian Luke Elliott, he decides he’ll make the best of his time as a human.

Luke is a man with secrets who generally prefers the company of animals—though the flamboyant boy who washes his face with the side of his hand and tries to lick his own privates might prove an exception.

Meanwhile, Witch Master Killian Barth and his secret weapon, Sammy, struggle without Aloysius’s power to draw on. Two evil females are circling, and seeing the coven’s weakness, they’re about to move in for the kill. When Alain’s memories return, he’s faced with the ultimate dilemma: protect his community or stay with the man he loves.

You can buy it at HERE. The release is September 13th and there will be a blog tour with a nice prize, so be sure to visit!  : )

Our Passion for Print!

Hi everyone–
As you know, i’m a “digital first” writer, meaning that all the books i have published (14 as of this coming Monday) appear first in ebook format and then may, some time later, be printed. Ebooks are unquestionably the reading material of the future. In June of 2012, the sales of ebooks surpassed the sales of hardcover books for the first time and the number of sales of ebooks — over $282 million at that point YTD — was sneaking up on the sales of paperbacks at $300 million YTD (in June). Most significantly, the sales of ebooks were up over 28% from the previous year while the sale of paperbacks was down over 10%. So ebooks are it for the future

On top of that, writers make much more money on ebook sales than they do on paperback sales. Authors typically make between 25-50% of the cover price of their book in digital formats while the percent of print sales may be between 5% and 15%. And, of course, our subgenres of erotic romance sell much better in digital formats because people consume our books in huge quantities. Readers don’t want to spend print book prices except on their very favorites which they typically buy after they have read the digital edition.

All this makes ebooks the erotic romance writers best friend — and yet we still happy dance all over the place when we get our books in print. Isn’t it funny? This may change after a generation, but having those words printed on pages that you hold in your hand makes writers feel like “authors”. Being able to sit and sign your books for a reader, even if you’re making pennies, gives a person that “I’m a real writer” thrill.

For me, it’s been an amazing rush. From having no books in print at the beginning of this year, I now have eight and more on the way. This only appears as five print books since one is a three-book anthology and another is a two book omnibus. This coming weekend i’ll be signing books at an RWA meeting. That should be fun — sitting there smelling the ink on paper and smiling that real author smile!

Do you think we’ll ever cherish ebooks the same way we love paper books? Or will paper books become that much more valued as they become more rare?

Thank you so much for coming by. If you’d like to be on my newsletter mail list for notices about contests, guests, special events and such, just go up to the top of the right hand column and join.  : )

Beach Balls Coming Later! June 1 When the Water’s Warmer

Hi everyone–

So i am ducking and covering since i know some of you will be throwing things at me when i say that Beach Balls release has been postponed until June 1. Oh well, i figure the water will be warmer for my underwater lovers! So watch for a blog tour and contests and hot romance come June 1.

But as one friend said, Whew that gives me time to catch up with all the Tara Lain books that have come out so far this year.Nice thought. But if you have, in fact, missed any, here is what you have missed–

Sinders and Ash (released April 1) is a new take on a fairy tale romance. As one reviewer said, it is much more than a fairy tale. It’s a serious LGBT romance with thoughtful themes all couched in a familiar trope. It has gotten a ton of 5-star reviews. It’s also available in paperback for those of you who like to hold the book in your hands.

Work hard, stay anonymous and don’t expect much. That’s resort housekeeper Mark Sintorella’s philosophy of life. After being kicked out of his family home at sixteen for being gay, Mark knows what it takes to survive. But how is he going to stay anonymous when he wants to be recognized as a great fashion designer? And how can he control his expectations when he’s desperately attracted to Ashton Armitage, the son of the fifth richest man in America? If Ash doesn’t find a woman to marry he’s going to lose his inheritance, but he can’t seem to resist the beautiful kid who cleans fireplaces while hiding behind a black cap and heavy glasses. And then this crazy elf of a man, Carstairs Pennymaker, has Mark running around looking like a fashion model wearing gorgeous women’s clothes. The clock strikes twelve and the wedding follows the ball. Two beautiful princesses line up for attention. But one isn’t interested and one isn’t a woman. Who will be the bride? Will the shoe fit? Only his fairy godmother knows for sure.

As a lot of people know, before Sinders and Ash was Spell Cat released March 20th. This is my first foray into the paranormal. A contemporary LGBT romance with a great cat and some witchy suspense, Spell Cat has been a bestseller.

When Killian Barth, history professor, meets Blaine Genneau, quantum physicist, they ignite their own big bang. But sadly, Killian walks away because he doesn’t do physics professors. In fact, he doesn’t do humans; Killian is the most powerful male witch in 10 generations and, though gay, he’s expected to save his declining race by reproducing. Sex with humans depletes his power – or so he’s been taught. Then why can young human, Jimmy Janx, dissolve spoons with a thought? Somebody’s a lying witch. With his powerful cat familiar, Aloysius, on his shoulder, Killian brings the lightning against deceit and greed to save Blaine from danger and prove love is the greatest power of them all.

And before that was the wildly popular Fire Balls. But if you’re all caught up on this year’s releases, go back and try Golden Dancer. It is MMM romantic suspense and the favorite book of a lot of my readers. And if that doesn’t suit — sigh, we just have to wait for a month together. Meanwhile, i’m writing Book 4 in the Genetic Attraction series. So menage lovers, i’m looking at you!

If you aren’t on my mail list yet, just go to the top of the right hand column and sign up.  And thank you so much for visiting the blog!  : )

Cover Love! Call Me Lucky!

Hi everyone–
Can you tell a book by its cover? Probably not, but you sure can buy a book because of its cover. The amazing cover by PL Nunn of my friend Belinda McBride’s book, An Uncommon Whore, combined with the terrific title made the book irresistible. Fortunately, it’s a great book so I was not at all disappointed after succumbing to the cover. I happen to love illustrated covers and the subtle cover art for Ariel Tachna’s The Inventor’s Companion haunted me until I bought the book. Another good choice. But I have seen books that were not served well by their covers, haven’t you? One of my favorite author’s very best books has a cover that kept me from reading the book for years. When I finally did read it, I was horrified that it had taken me so long.
I have been amazingly blessed with great covers in my short career. My very first cover for Genetic Attraction by Valerie Tibbs (who also did the wonderful covers for The Scientist and the Supermodel and Deceptive Attraction) was so magical and sensuous I was immediately convinced of the power of covers. My recent release, Fire Ball,s features a character looking at the reader with such attitude, it perfectly captures the spirit of the book. I know it helped make this book a bestseller. The same with Volley Balls. People drool when they see those three gorgeous guys. And the new Sinders and Ash cover by Trace Edward Zaber features two guys who are so drool-worthy you just want to keep looking.
And that brings me to Spell Cat. The entire Internet has been buzzing over this beautiful cover. In my blog tour I was giving away gift cards but what did people want the most? The Spell Cat poster! The cover is created by Shobana Appavu and it captures the book down to the smallest detail–like the ring he holds in his fingers.
I am a very lucky writer. What are your favorite covers?
Thank you so much for visiting the blog. I love blog followers!  : )

CAPA Award Nominee!! Genetic Attraction Excerpt. MMF Hotness!

Hi all–
Probably by now you have heard me yelling all over town because i’m so excited to be a double CAPA nominee. These awards from The Romance Studio honor excellence in romance of all genres. First, i’ll tell you i am AMAZED to find that i was nominated as Favorite Author. This list of 19 writers includes some of the best-known and most popular romance writers around– and little me. I am so honored to be named in the same breath with these people and i’m dancin’!

Equally fantastic, my book, Genetic Attraction, is nominated in Contemporary Romance. This MMF menage was my first published novel and is still being discovered by new readers every day.  So today i want to feature an excerpt from this book. You’ll notice i have a warning on my blog for adults only. Usually i don’t need it.  Today i DO!!  LOL

Excerpt ADULT: Genetic Attraction by Tara Lain; M/M/F Contemprary

At a conservative Long Island University, renowned researcher, Dr. Emmaline Silvay, has two great loves – her life-saving work, and her younger research partner, Jake Martin. The romantic love is impossible. She’s his boss and he lives with his girlfriend. The the “girlfriend” is actually a boyfriend, the beautiful and infamous supermodel, Roan Black.

Resigned to a platonic relationship, Em accepts a weekend invitation to their home, but the men have a menage on their minds. She can’t resist, doesn’t even want to. But their intentions go far beyond passion. They want her to “be a part of them”. Their three-way love defies propriety and the standards of the University that funds their work. The supermodel’s fame makes secrecy impossible. Their ménage threatens to crumble all she’s worked for. What will give way to make room for genetic attraction?

They made the short ride to the hotel with his hands up her skirt and hers in his pants, not saying a word, just feeling and kissing each other until they were both dripping. As they pulled up to the hotel, he stuffed himself back into his pants and tried to adjust his jacket down over his massive erection. She just pulled off her wet thong, stuffed it in her purse, and stepped out of the car commando. By the time they got to the elevator, they were both giggling and wild to fuck.

An obviously well-heeled elderly couple rode the elevator with them, and Em tried to behave, but Roan kept reaching down and licking her neck and ear. She’d slap at him but couldn’t stop giggling. When the older couple got to their floor, the lady looked back at Em, winked, and said sweetly, “Have a nice night.”

She and Roan burst out laughing as the doors closed, and then they attacked each other while the elevator continued to the penthouse. Roan picked her up, so she could wrap her legs around him and grind her bare, throbbing pussy against that enormous bulge. Oh God, after all the emotional turmoil, it felt like heaven to just get lost in sex. She rode up and down on him, probably ruining that beautiful suit, but God it felt good.

On the top floor they staggered out of the elevator and straight into Roan’s suite. She was vaguely aware that it was beautiful and overlooked the whole city. He carried her straight to the bedroom, panting in her ear.

“Oh baby, I want to fuck you so bad.” He tossed her on the bed. Her full skirt wound up around her waist, baring her naked pussy. The sight seemed to enthrall him, so she spread her legs, making the very wet lips gape. She was still wearing her heels.

Roan groaned while ripping off his belt and pulling the slim trousers down, revealing tight black boxer briefs that were grossly distorted by his enormous erection. Somewhere he had toed off his loafers. He pulled off socks and shoved the briefs down and off, freeing that indescribable cock to stick out under his still-buttoned shirt.

In one move he was on the bed, and shoving that huge rod into her soaked vagina.

Oh God, she’d almost forgotten what that much cock felt like. Real, serious friction. Just this side of pain, she felt so full, so stretched — so complete.

He thrust and thrust, head thrown back, eyes shut tight. She wrapped her legs around him, letting the heels of her pumps press into his flexing ass. A little pain with his pleasure?

He screamed. “Oh, shit, yes!”

The huge pumping cock hit against her womb in one out of three strokes. He was too far gone to stop, and she was too far gone to care, strapped to him with arms and legs like a monkey, pounding her hips up onto his cock, eager to take all of him as he ground against her clit.

The pressure and the pleasure morphed into one huge cloud of feeling, surrounding and filling her until she exploded, energy shooting up her spine, through her womb, and into her head, until she thought she might black out. She screamed Roan’s name over and over, and he cried out with her and kept crying as he pumped and pumped. Suddenly semen was leaking from her channel. Oh my God, young men came so hard — so good.

Gasping, Roan rolled to the side so as not to crush her. He gave a little laugh. “I think we needed that.”

Hang On to Your Fire Balls! Stuff is Coming!!

Hi all–

With all the excitement over the release of Mistletowed and all my great guests, i didn’t stop long enough to tell you i just signed a contract for a new erotic beach romance called Fire Balls. Yep, you guessed it. Fire Balls is a sequel to the popular novella, Volley Balls, but it’s a completely different story —

Rodney Mansfield is tiny, flamboyant and, oh yeah, a black belt in karate. He is also one of southern California’s greatest artists. Too bad the work of art he really wants is firefighter, Hunter Fallon. But the gorgeous “straight gay” guy could never want the Runtback of Notre Dame, so when Rodney’s handsome, surfer friend Jerry develops an unexpected passion for the beautiful firefighter, Rodney breaks his own heart by helping Jerry land his man. And then Rod makes it worse by embarrassing Hunter when he protects him from a firehouse bully. Hunter hates gay guys like Rodney – doesn’t he? Then why can’t he get the powerful pipsqueak’s face out of his mind… and cock out of his ass? And why does he risk his job and his life to rescue Rod from a burning building? Isn’t it time for him to admit he’s not an alpha male after all and that he is the property of the artist?

Fire Balls will be coming in the spring from Etopia Press! Much sooner, expect the Stuff Your Stockings Blog Hop. The Blog Hop starts THIS Friday and goes the entire weekend!! You will have over 100 authors to visit, and a gazillion prizes to win including TWO copies of Mistletowed and many, many gift cards, books and other goodies. HERE is the LINK to the Hop

Confessions of a Book Convention Virgin

I’m going to RT. Whew. It gives me a butterfly or two. You see, I’ve never been to a writer’s conference of any kind. Of course, I’ve only officially been a novelist for a few months, since my first book, Genetic Attraction, a M/M/F menage, came out from Loose Id in January.
It’s funny to say I’m a convention virgin, because I literally made a living doing presentations for conventions and trade shows for many years right out of college. I started out standing up in front of crowds with a microphone extolling the virtues of some new computer system and, in later years as a PR person, dragged the poor members of the press into my client’s booth for interviews. But RT will all be new. Just getting ready for this conference, however, I’ve already learned a bunch of important facts:
It’s all about the bar –If all the people who say they are going to meet me in the bar meet me in the bar, there will be no one left in the sessions.
Swag R Us — At my first trade show years ago I was dressed as a rabbit, a singing and dancing one, and I ran around between performances collecting candy –it was the National Confectioners Association. At RT, we writers are the candy givers. I now have a stack of postcards, magnets, little mirror compacts and such to hand out. It should be fun.
Build the Back List, baby – At RT, I’ll be in the less than ideal position of having only one ebook available. My next release isn’t until May, then June and beyond. Under ordinary circumstances, I probably wouldn’t have picked RT for my first conference, but it’s in my backyard so I couldn’t resist. I realize with some delight that by this time next year I should have seven or eight books in the backlist including a few in print.
Workshopaholics Anonymous – I adore workshops. It’s how I trained myself to be a novel writer after a lifetime writing nonfiction. At RT, I will go crazy because at any given half hour there are multiple events I want to attend. And, of course, there’s the bar!
Ready for the Pitch – There are so many great opportunities to pitch publishers and agents at RT, I wish I had a manuscript to present. All my work this year, however, is spoken for and I’m not complaining. It’s a great problem to have.
I’m looking forward to the Conference and will be reporting back during the week with details as i learn lots more things. I’ll be signing at the ebook Fair on Friday afternoon, so come see me there. Anything you know i shouldn’t miss? Leave me a comment.  :  )
